Former West Bengal deputy speaker Asish Banerjee was found dead on Sunday morning. His body was discovered hanging at a Trinamool Congress office in Rampurhat.
Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause. A purported suicide note was also reportedly recovered from the party office.
Banerjee was a five-time MLA from Rampurhat and served as deputy speaker.
